How to Set Up Your Domain on GoHighLevel for Email Marketing (2025 Edition)

setting up domain in Gohighlevel for email marketing

Email marketing remains a powerful tool for connecting with customers and boosting sales. However, to ensure your messages land in inboxes and not spam folders, you need to take control of your email’s origin. This is where a dedicated sending domain comes into play. In this blog we will explore on how to connect your sub-domain with GoHighLevel (GHL) for all outgoing emails. Once connected you can use this domain for various bulk, automated and transactional emails from GHL. At same time GHL will be able to capture all replies and bounces in the system.

GoHighLevel (GHL) is an all-in-one sales and marketing automation platform designed primarily for agencies, consultants, and small businesses. It combines CRM, email marketing, funnel building, SMS campaigns, appointment scheduling, and white-label tools into a single dashboard—allowing users to manage client outreach, lead generation, and conversions from one unified system. Its flexible integrations and automation features make it a popular choice for streamlining workflows and scaling marketing efforts efficiently.

GoHighLevel provides a shared IP email sending service where it uses Mailgun-provided IP addresses. However, to gain more control over your email sending domain and IP addresses, GoHighLevel also offers a feature where you can integrate your existing ESP/SMTP services (such as Gmail, Sendgrid, or any other). Setting up your own dedicated sending domain is quick and easy to create for any sub-account or agency.

Step-by-Step Guide to Configuring Your Dedicated Sending Domain

Email Sending Options in GoHighLevel:

Option A: Just use the GHL provided domains for emails (less recommended)

Option B: Use GHL’s Built-in Mailgun Integration
This uses GHL/Mailgun managed IPs and requires you to connect a subdomain.

Option C: Bring Your Own SMTP (SendGrid, Gmail, Amazon SES)
Gives you full control over sending IPs and limitsbut takes more technical setup.

Step 1: Choose a Subdomain

Create something like:

  • mail.yourdomain.com
  • send.yourdomain.com
  • crm.yourdomain.com

Note: This subdomain should be solely used for email sending from GHL.

Step 2: Go to Domain Settings in GHL

Navigate to Settings > Domains > Connect a domain
Click Connect next to Email

Step 3: Add the Subdomain and DNS Records

When prompted, enter your chosen subdomain. GHL will now show you 4-6 DNS records to add to your domain’s DNS (domain registrar GoDaddy, Cloudflare etc).

Step 4: Verify the Domain

Once DNS records propagate (can take 5 to 30 mins):
Return to GHL > Click Verify Domain

Step 5: Set Email Headers (From Name & Address)

Set email headers for your GHL emails

Click the three dots next to your verified domain and choose “Set Headers”

  • From Name
  • From Email Address (must be on the same subdomain)

Optional: Use Your Own SMTP

You can connect providers like SendGrid, Amazon SES, or Gmail via SMTP.
Requires warm-up but gives full control.
